My Two Babes

Eli is in denial that he is still a baby yet he "needs" his pacifiers and he has no desire to give up his diapers.  We have now designated his bed as the only place he can use his "pasos".  It's quite entertaining to see him go upstairs on his own to take a hit on one of those bad boys.  I'm in no hurry to let him grow up though.  He and Ty may be potty training at the same time.  I'm a softy!!

My Dancing Queen

A few months ago I was led to a dance company for Ruby that sounded like a good situation. Learning that modesty and wholesome moves were a part of the regime I signed her up.  As I got more information I realized it was going to be a lot more time consuming and  a lot more money than I had expected.  Feeling overwhelmed I kept reminding myself that I only had one daughter, I could do this for my one daughter.  I'll admit that I have complained and wondered if I had made the right decision.  But after one of her performances at the State Fair a few weeks ago I'm thrilled with my decision.  I loved seeing her up on stage and she loves being on stage.  She's got some great confidence and looooves to dance.  Basically, it's all worth it when I see how much she loves it.  And she is so dang cute!!!!!

I love her kicks.  She puts all her strength into it while lacking any sort of form.

In my opinion, she has got it!!  Whatever it is, she's got it!!
Sign me up for next year!  I'm sold!
I love that she glances over at me throughout her whole performance.  I don't know if she feels the camera on her or if she wants to make sure I'm watching but regardless, she sees a mom that is just beaming.  I love that I'm Ruby's mom!!!!!

MY FAVORITE HALLOWEENERS

A little bit late but thought that there may be some older yet more distinguished women who may want to get a load of their grandkids on Halloween, this post is for you.
You can't tell from the picture but Ty was a bit fussy on Halloween so we didn't mess with a costume.  But just wait 'til next year, he's going to blow your mind.  The rest of the photos should speak for themselves.

Like father, like son!!

I've never considered myself one who has to match.  I never buy "outfits" and my bedroom and living room furniture were all bought at different times from different places.  I like things to look right together but they don't have to be a set, I'd actually prefer things not to come as a set.   But now I'm beginning to wonder if I've changed...
Which leads me to this, our dryer has been on it's last leg for awhile and this weekend we had to come to terms with the fact that it has done its time.   We've had it since we've only had one child and now we have five - it has done well.  So, this means a new dryer.  Of course I want the latest and greatest front loader with stand to make it higher and of course I would love it in a cool, funky color like red.    But the problem is that my husband is threatening that he will only be buying the dryer - it makes sense, our washing machine still works.  But the thought is horrifying - they're not going to match.  A sleek machine next to an old-timer.  I politely informed Paul that when you give a mom a dryer she's going to want a washing machine to go with it.  Stay tuned...

Brigette and Corey say I DO!!

I'm finishing up a wedding I photographed about a week and a half ago.  The bride was beauty so I really couldn't go wrong.  Thought I'd share some of my faves and hopefully give the family a taste of what's to come.

I can be pretty funny when I'm photographing.

We had a great time on our two week getaway to UT but now we're home and getting back into the groove of things.  Life is pretty busy.  Paul is gone a lot with Bishop stuff (all sorts of random meetings that all seem to be mandatory) and if he does come home early it's because I have a photo shoot so he comes in as I take off and we often will comment to each other that we miss each other.   We're learning to make the most of time when we are together.  If he were gone this much because of work or golf it would be a lot harder to handle - it hasn't been too hard to step up because I believe this is what he should be doing.
Ty has been such a high light and I'm still blown away by him.  He's a good baby and it has been pretty easy adjusting to five kids.  Of course it makes it that much easier that my body is healthy and I'm not having to deal with milk coming in and the likes.
We're all getting such a huge crush on Ty.  He makes the cutest humming sounds when he eats and has such an easy going nature about him.  It's going to be so fun to watch this kid grow up.  Eli is always looking for "the baby" and smothers him with the sloppiest kisses.  The other kids are always more than willing to hold him or feed him whenever they get the chance.  He is already so loved and he makes it pretty easy to do.  My life is rich!!

Oh HAPPY DAY!!!!!

It happened!  It finally, really, really, finally happened!!
Welcome the newest addition to our family:
TY NICOLAS
born:  Oct. 1, 2008
6 lbs. 11ounces
20 inches

It has been well over a year of heart break and waiting and anticipating and excitement and let downs and wondering and hoping and praying and crying and alas, all that has paid off.  We can't wait to bring him home from the hospital tomorrow.  He's an easy going, beautiful baby and we feel so fortunate to be a part of his life.  Not too shabby of a birthday gift for me.  I told the kids that only good things happen on my birthday and this has definitely topped the charts as the best!!  Oh happy day!!

In case you ever wondered...

I'm obviously having a good time learning Photoshop but at Paul's expense.  He's a good sport!! Love that man, mustache and all!!  (Also note the side burns and fuller head of hair)

MY NEWEST ASSISTANT

Today we had our favorite, little friend over and it just so happened to be her first birthday.  I decided to give her a little photo shoot and discovered that I have an apprentice.  As we were outside shooting, Eli (whom I hadn't dressed yet for the day) went inside and got his camera and joined me on the shoot.

He tried to get her to turn around so he could get a good shot of her...
And then realized that when they're only one year old you can't expect them to cooperate...So he moved himself and his camera to where he was better able to photograph.  The kid has got a future, no doubt!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CUTEST HOPE!!  If I had future seeing abilities (you know, like Raven) and had seen Hope with us on her first birthday I would have been so confused when things didn't work out like I wanted them to.   Who knew?

Tuesday, September 2, 2008

I just got Photoshop CS3 and Lightroom the other day and I am sooooo diggin' it.  Do you really think my kid's teeth are that white?  And what about that glisten in their eyes?  I see it but the camera never is able to pick it up.  And let's not forget the ability to actually scrapbook digitally - so the "paper" and "lettering" were free as I'm messing around and learning how to use it all. (too cutesy but impressive, nonetheless).  I do not miss the days of film cameras and my actual darkroom set up in my bathroom on top of my toilet.  I can do everything and so much more on my computer and I don't have to smell the chemicals of fixer and developer.  Life is good!!

The last couple of years I have prepared the kids that I will not be buying their school pictures because I feel I can get such a better shot of them.  It took a few times before their feelings weren't hurt but now they get it.  We have a game where they've got to make the funniest faces they can without being too obvious to the photographer.   We get a good laugh.  But the last laugh will be on me when they start using that photo as their actual class photo.  My kids will curse me 'til the day I die.  Until then, it's pretty funny!!

It's a pretty cool thing when my daughter starts hanging out with the daughter of one of my closest friends from high school/college.  Hopefully this will mean I'll get to see Melissa more often.  She's a pretty cool cat!!

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL

What a great start to the first of the school year.  In years past Gib (4th grade)  has been so nervous the first few weeks of school but this year it has been drastically different.  He is done phenomenally.  And Charlie, that kid is eating it up!  He looooves going to kindergarten and finally going to the big kid school.  Ruby (2nd grade), as usual, is excited about everything and can't stop talking about all the cool things they do at school.  She even rated her day a "9" with "10" being the greatest day ever.
When I picked Charlie up from his first day of school, I'm not kidding, he was the cutest kindergartener there!  The first thing he said to me was , "Tell Ruby she doesn't have to make me lunches anymore, I can just get my lunch here."
Notice Eli's backpack, he wears it every morning until we've dropped the kids off at school.  We're having a good time just hanging out and playing imaginary baseball in the house.  As soon as the kids come home he's off and playing with them as they all seem just as excited to see him.
And off they go to yet another year of school.

My super cool friend, Wendy, tagged me the other day with a very thought provoking tag.  It has taken me a bit of time to complete 'cause I had to think about it a little more but, alas, I have finished.  Thanks Wendy!!  It was an enjoyable tag and got me thinking about who I am!!!
You're a ROCKSTAR!!

  • I am. . .happy, outgoing and confident.
  • I think. . .logically and practical.  I claim I have street smarts and Paul has book smarts, therefore, we’re a great team.
  • I know. . . the gospel in its fullness is found in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  (a little testimonial but it’s really the only thing that I absolutely KNOW - it’s what the rest of my knowledge is based on)
  • I want. . .to have a cleaner and more organized home.
  • I have. . . a perfect husband for me.
  • I wish. . .I didn’t love sweets so much.
  • I hate. . .birds flapping their wings next to me - eeby geebies!!!
  • I miss. . .when it was just Gib and me; when it was just Gib, Ruby and me; when Charlie was just born; when Eli was a baby; yesterday.
  • I fear. . .I’m not going to  make the most of my time with my kids while they’re young, that I’m not going to teach them everything they need to know before they take on the world on their own.
  • I feel. . . like I did when I was 18 and then an 18 year old calls me Sister Kroff and I realize I don’t look 18 - I’m getting older.
  • I hear. . .  too much silence.  The kids started school today (8/11/09) and it’s too quiet!!!
  • I smell. . . too well!!  I believe it’s a curse as the nasty smells far outweigh the good smells.  Though it’s a total blessing during the Spring in AZ - the blossoms are to die for, divine!!!
  • I search. . . for answers to my never ending question of why bad things have to happen.  How much does God intervene and how much does he leave it up to us and our free agency?  And why does it seem He intervenes in some situations and not in others or is that just us trying to make sense of it all?
  • I wonder. . . (see above)
  • I regret. . . losing my cool with my husband and my kids, trying to get people to laugh at other’s expense
  • I love. . .  Paul, hearing my kids truly laugh; Charlie’s shy, nervous, excited smile; when my house is clean; when Paul laughs at my jokes; being completely relaxed; having my extended family over at my house; Red Vines and Milk Duds; an amazing photograph of my kids together; and the list goes on and on.
  • I care. . .about keeping the rules.  If a sign on the grass says, “Don’t walk on the grass” then I don’t walk on the grass.
  • I always. . . wear an original Angela Henrie around my neck - only the best jewelry for me.
  • I am not. . .into fashion, though sometimes I wish I was (except my jewelry is ALWAYS in fashion).
  • I believe. . . I can accomplish anything if I want it bad enough.
  • I dance. . .only in the comfort of my own home and only for my children and husband - I’ve got some mean moves but I keep them to myself.
  • I sing. . . at the top of my lungs only if I think nobody is listening.  Gib thinks that I could win American Idol if I tried out - do with that what you will.
  • I don't always. . . go to bed happy with my husband.  It’s my own pride and something I need to work on.  (A shocker for those of you that think I’m perfect).
  • I write. . . to-do lists almost everyday and only get half of it done.
  • I win. . .every bet Paul and I make (I do tend to change the rules as circumstances change).
  • I lose. . .my credit card and debit card too many times.  (I’m sure they’re in my pant pocket somewhere - this stresses Paul out so I don’t tell him until I absolutely have to)
  • I never. . . keep secrets from my husband (unless it’s regarding a lost debit or credit card).
  • I listen. . . to my kids tell me about their dreams from the night before.
  • I can usually be found. . . in my kitchen as it seems I’m either cleaning it or dirtying it by making dinner.
  • I'm scared of. . . losing my husband or my children to death.
  • I read. . . the scriptures and church books.  I love mindless reading but I’ve learned it takes me away from all my responsibilities so it has to be a super duper amazing mindless read.  I wish I could say I get lost in the scriptures and church books the same way I do with the other books but I haven’t reached that point yet - someday.
  • I am happy about. . .choices I’ve made and the future I have ahead of me.

IIknoI now tag my three beautiful sisters!!  Good luck ladies!!

With the bad news we've gotten this week we've also received some good news:  the UNDERWATER DIGITAL CAMERA GOGGLES I ordered back in May were being delivered.  The kids and I have been waiting for these since our trip to Mazatlan.  Guaranteed summer success.  When they were actually delivered there were screams of sheer delight by everyone (except Gib, he keeps his emotions a little more bottled up - too cool for screaming).   Paul told me not to get my hopes up and not to expect too much. ( I do have a tendency to build things up and then be disappointed. )  But, boy, was he wrong.  They are so dang cool.  Not only do they take pictures under water  but they also take video.  Seriously, does it get any cooler?

So, the only problem is that they're not too good looking on.  This only goes to show the price I'll pay to get a fun shot of my kids.  I'm devoted!!  They're so fun I don't even care how I look.

Another baby we hoped to adopt fell through.  It has been a rollercoaster of a month and it has ended with a broken heart.  I don't know if my heart can handle this again.

I'd like to introduce you to our new Bishop...
Yup, my husband is now the Bishop of our ward and he's going to do fabulous!!  He has been pretty overwhelmed for the last couple of weeks but now that it is finally official I think it has taken a load off.  It was a real neat experience yesterday to see the immediate support we felt from the ward.  So many people sustaining Paul and telling us that they knew beforehand that Paul would be the Bishop gave both of us so much comfort.  It was a neat experience as I'm sure we'll have many in the next five years.
So far, anytime someone calls him Bishop I chuckle - that's going to take some getting used to.
He's a good, good man and I have no doubt he's going to put his heart into this calling and will do a great job!  It's me that I'm worried about - I've got to put every effort into not complaining when duty calls.  Who knew that I would be a Bishop's wife?  The Mother of the Ward, for that matter.

I'm married to an incredibly fabulous guy and we have five beautiful children. I'm able to stay home and keep our house spotless and meals on the table when needed.
