I've never considered myself one who has to match.  I never buy "outfits" and my bedroom and living room furniture were all bought at different times from different places.  I like things to look right together but they don't have to be a set, I'd actually prefer things not to come as a set.   But now I'm beginning to wonder if I've changed...
Which leads me to this, our dryer has been on it's last leg for awhile and this weekend we had to come to terms with the fact that it has done its time.   We've had it since we've only had one child and now we have five - it has done well.  So, this means a new dryer.  Of course I want the latest and greatest front loader with stand to make it higher and of course I would love it in a cool, funky color like red.    But the problem is that my husband is threatening that he will only be buying the dryer - it makes sense, our washing machine still works.  But the thought is horrifying - they're not going to match.  A sleek machine next to an old-timer.  I politely informed Paul that when you give a mom a dryer she's going to want a washing machine to go with it.  Stay tuned...

I dream of having a beautiful, red front-loading washer & dryer. You definitely need to get them as a set, right? ;) How many weddings would you have to photo to earn the washer, too?

They will probably give you a deal if you buy both now, so in the long run, you will be saving MONEY! Did you think of that, Paul?

We had the same problem in reverse. The washer went out first and we couldn't justify buying the dryer so we didn't. No less than 6 months later the dryer quit. And of course they no longer made the one that matched the washer... so now I'm stuck with a mismatched set and I hate it every time I do laundry (which is like 5 times a day).

I will still be your friend if your washing machine and dryer don't match. This illustrates just how men and women are different. Good luck my friend! Keep us all posted.

I don't know Amy, I think you will win this one, you know how to work that Paul!

I don't know if I can come by your home anymore if your washer and dryer aren't matching.

We love our front loading washer. The things that put us over the edge to buy it were...First, our dryer died the day Sarah was born (it was over 25 years old). The washing machine was the same age, so we figured it was time to buy them both together. Good thing we did, too, because the washing machine died the day before delivery....Next, the front loading washing machines are very energy efficient, so you are saving money long term because it uses less water and detergent and does larger loads of laundry than top-loading models. Our rationale was, the machine that has to do the hardest work is the washing machine. If it spins the clothes dry better than the old one, we'll have things in the dryer for a shorter amount of time, and use less electricity. We actually ended up with a "mismatched set" though when we moved to our condo, because we needed to have a gas dryer here. Luckily, our mismatches are both white...so it doesn't bug me at all. Good luck with the decision.

Oh Amy. I agree with you. Sell it on Craig's List. That's what we did when we got to Texas because the dryer was gas (or vice versa). I do wish I got a funky color though; it was a bit more. (I got white.) My SIL got a black set.

But then, how many people look at your washer/dryer... and you have a door on your wash room too, don't you??? (Don't let Paul read that last paragraph!)

We'll be knockin' your door at Turkey Time looking for some left over candy! See you soon!

Hi there- I am the youngest meredith not sure if you remember me. Saw your blog from Jen and Kelly's. Your family is precious. And I find it interesting that you are a photographer... I do recall you taking pictures of me and Meghan with my parents polaroid when you were a missionary. Yes I have a weird memory but I think my mom still has those pictures somewhere. Anyway I just wanted to say hello!

Go for the new red set, life is short!

When ours died I bought a mis-matched dryer from the scratch and dent area to save a penny or two. I regret that decision every time I do a load of laundry. Sometimes it’s okay to splurge!

Can't wait to hear how it all turns out.

wow, you've really changed! Matchy-matchy is so not you BEFORE your mission. (teehee)

Use it up, wear it out, make do or do without, right? Our mutual friend, Jess, has TWO washers so she can get more done. Maybe you can try that approach (until your old washer dies). Then you will be more productive!

Hey, btw, did you know your sweet son tagged you and you are the only one who has not responded?
