To my seven friends, those photos were of adoption papers and now they are moving on to the next step. We had to do everything we did for Ty for a domestic adoption but those papers were for our dossier. They include financial institution info., referral letters, criminal background checks, original birth certificates for everyone in our family, marriage certificates, etc., etc. Everything had to be done three times and everything had to be notarized. We had to separately take an education class on line, get our fingerprints that were sent to the FBI, passports, photos and on and on. I have a friend (just one) who questions why so much work, if someone is willing to pay the money why make it so difficult. I read on someone's blog the other day that she believes this process is to weed out the weak. Sounded good to me, therefore I am strong because it's finished!! In a few weeks all of this information I worked so hard to obtain will be sitting on the desk of someone's in Ethiopia. Once it arrives there we begin our waiting period. I'm not very good at waiting. The last five months it has been in my control and now it won't be. We're told that it should take about six months but it could be two weeks. I'll keep you seven peeps informed. It's an exciting time for us and Ruby is going nuts because we made it very clear we want a girl.
And because it wouldn't be me if I didn't have a photo on my post here is one so you can see what a good mother I am, it just comes naturally:

First, please share with your friend that if the government had to place their children with a family due to loosing custody or death of both parents wouldn't they want the government to check and make a person has the resources and no criminal record before placement. And the understanding about the grief that comes with a new family, new culture.. It's quite a shock. Eyes Wide Open is how you should go into adoption. Surely she doesn't just want someone with cash enough to pay fees?
I'm in another adoption program. One completed and one in process. Also Hague so more steps. Our government is regularly putting up alerts on Ethopia process and at least one agency losing license due to suspected wrongdoing. Those families are stuck. Please be aware of these alerts as they are posted. Some think international adoption is more safe than domestic. Just different challenges. The page has time frame and process explainations to help friends understand.
Some families can get stuck if immigration isn't satisfied with the paperwork from the completed adoption and if that happens there is no VISA for the child to come to the US.
Best of luck to building your family.
Thanks kms for the info. I'm definitely learning as I go so I appreciate your insight.
