When I bring out my camera I find that I love capturing moments. Sometimes I help create them and other times I'm just "a fly on a wall (with a rockin' camera)". Editing them is one of my favorite things to do and I imagine the photos that I take being more valued 10, 20, 30 years down the road. I feel a great photo of perfect smiles is great to have but the photos that have stood the test of time for me are the photos that tell a story, capture that one moment that you might have otherwise forgotten. For example, a photo I still have in my home displayed in a frame is of me when I was about 8 taking a bite of Anna's (who was about 2) icecream cone when she was smiling for the camera. Classic photo and one that won't come out of the frame. It tells a story and I love it.
A few months ago we were fortunate enough to be in UT for one of my favorite niece's baptism. I pulled out my camera and started to document. As I've been editing these photos I realize how much I love to document events. To help someone remember some of the details of a special day. I took Maggie outside while the festivities were getting under way and took a few of just her on her baptism day. What a sweetie pie! I hope this photo reminds her how angelic she looked on her baptism.
She had a couple of her girl cousins there that day and so of course we had to get them in on the action. To document these gals laughing together and enjoying each others company is priceless to me. Hope it is for Maggie years down the road.
Oh happy day! Maggie was in such a great mood as she was able to have family from both sides gather to celebrate her and her choice to be baptized. This photograph says it all.
I love that my mom has a knife as she's explaining something very important to the other ladies. Notice how intently they're listening (does that have anything to do with the knife?)
I love that Maggie will remember that her oldest cousin and her boyfriend were able to be in attendance at her baptism. They traveled from AZ and were there to support. Maggie may have forgotten if it wasn't document, I mean, she is only 8.
I love that Maggie will always remember which house the lived in the day she was baptized and that her dad picked up the pizza and brought it home to feed the crowd.
I love that everyone enjoyed the pizza because I know that Anna was stressing on what to feed everyone that day.
I love that I captured Maggie and her Grandpa just talking. I learned later from Anna that that is exactly the kind of Grandpa he is, he will sit and talk/listen to his grandkids. How awesome to have that documented. And I love how Maggie's knees are together and her feet apart. My guess is that she won't sit like that when she gets a little bit older and I love that it has been captured.
Love this hug. Nuff said!!
The only tough part about me being the one that is most often documenting events is that people may forget that I was there, that I was a part of the day. Will Maggie remember that I was in attendance at her baptism? Well, problem solved:

those are incredible. I know I will appreciate all of those memories captured for my Mags.
And the last pic had me LOLing for quite some time.
LOVE YOU!
Classic Amy-- to end with a bang up photoshop.
Captured perfectly the event!
I am so bummed i will not be documented at that fabulous gathering. But thank you for letting us be somewhat a part of it!
Thanks, Amy. All of the pictures are GREAT except one. You know how I love my picture taken and when I look through the ones you have chosen, I always PRAY that I am not there. From now on, PLEASE... no more of me.
Come be a fly on my wall for awhile, why dont-cha?
Awesome! You look so good broad-shouldered and all.
I loved these photos, and was troubled by the last one until I realized that your family shares my family's (ahem) somewhat unconventional humor. Yeee hawww
